PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE

Proposal name:
The ANT, a new dynamic autonomous distributed system for sensor network
Subject:

The ant is an animal who has no chief, no rulers, no overseerer. I propose to mimic this behaviour into a powerful system. Imagine a ant there is no very usefull function alone but all what they can do as a group, and when the group is functionnal, just remove one ant does not affect the function).

Up till now, most application of mesh networks need a central coordinator (like in Zigbee) but this limit very much the application. I search for research centers and companies interested to develop a real distributed system where the function is not anymore in the centralization but in the quantity and the distribution of devices.

This need a new approach for Communication in RF with real mesh, for Embeded control schemes and for developping usefull function

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Proposal Outline:

Project Phases

So the project will be in 3 technical phases and 1 commercial phase

  1. Develop a proximity mesh protocol
  2. Develop a Embeded control scheme which does not use a central nodes
    • New Communication and information Layer (OSI cannot be used)
    • Abstration layers (create parameters for time and localize average) based on finite elements like principle (Middelware and so has disapear...!)
    • Goal functions which can be influence by local control
  3. Influence and actuators
    • Abstraction parameters (time and distance) determine the functions of the networks
exemple use a day average of temperature is not the same as average over all room of a house
Persitance of information but also minimizing the information is always the challenge (the ants use Pherone evaporation for this)
Rules inside each sensors will determine how to program
  4. Develop applications for commercial use
    Pipeline monitoring
    Forest fire detection and fighting
    Home automation
    Traffic managment

Technical Concepts

  1. For developing the protocol
      • The idea is to use chaotic modulation in a multi feedback chaotic generator.
      • the candidate must be easily integrable on a IC, must have very low power consumation and very robust in term of noise
      • Results is a RF IC with chaotic mesh network
  2. For developping the networking and control Scheme
      • I am very interested in Goal and Gradient Goal technics which can fit easily the mesh network (can be seen as a Finite element network)
      • Developping a generic interface and also the kind of parameters which can be locally pass to the next nodes but build a overview for the full network
      • Results is a set of rules and abstraction for using distributed nodes with local communication
      • Implementation on the second generation IC could be the next steps
  3. Devopping application
      • Tuning the results of the previous steps to create a killing application and a demonstration of the power of distributed function build up
