PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE

Proposal name:
Green Building decision support platform
Subject:

While the green building sector has known great commercial success for a few years, the project leaders of sustainable constructions are still missing efficient tools to implement state of the art technologies and proper project management methodologies in a cost effective manner.

Contrary to other energy intensive industries such as automotive or aerospace, the building industry is fundamentally not centralized. A construction project is always carried by different independent partners  following different logics (building developers, financial partners,  architects, technical engineering department, construction companies). In  this context, an optimization process is always time consuming and  expensive because it involves multiple iteration; that is why outside some specific demonstration projects, the optimisation under cost constraint of building energy consumption is almost never achieved.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Proposal Outline:

Our project aims to address this particular issue by proposing  decision-making support tools integrated in a collaborative work platform.

The idea is to build up a unique reference platform people could refer to,  to achieve demonstrative Zero Energy Buildings as well as "low cost - low  energy" constructions. Collaborative environment have already proved their  ability to improve the working process in large scale engineering groups.  Our assumption is that such a tool would be of great interest for green  building project; by reducing iterations delays and optimization costs, it would help to find better compromises between energy efficiency,  environmental management requirements and costs.

To reach these goals the developed platform will gather technical,  methodological and economic tools and make them communicate together. This  integrated platform will be developed in collaboration with a potential user(a design-builder being part of the consortium) and then tested on a real construction operation of his project portfolio.
