PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE

Proposal name:
HSIDL-Highly Shared Interactive Digital Library
Subject:

The purpose of the project is to construct a digital library based upon user information activities and interactivity (Work-based digital library): with the use of 3rd generation SEP technique, it can provide with a much cleaner and pleased reading interface, and realize the co-communications among different kinds of file format digital resources in accordance with UOML standard (http://www.uoml.org/uoml_english.htm); it can realize UGC, while the readers can upload any kinds of resources to the platform for sharing to realize the real interaction and communication; full-page search technique detailed to the page level can ease your searching within a single step, furthermore, the inseparable integration of one station searching of cross-library/cross-OS and internet information reaping can let the readers feel a much deeper sense of the simplicity and high efficiency of acquiring knowledge.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Proposal Outline:

The highly shared interactive digital library, taking the interactively communication, co-construction, and sharing as its core principle, is aiming to improve studying capabilities, skills and enthusiasms, expand the amount of people acquiring knowledge from this, and meet the demand of the study desire of the society changed all the time, thus let the content and knowledge produced, stored, managed and used reliably and highly efficient. The project will make use of following related techniques:
SEP technique. SEP technique supports the creation and transformation of the digital objects from various kinds of file formats like word/pdf, etc and other resources, thus it has much better usability. The 1st and 2nd generation of SEP technique of Sursen Corp has the full functionalities of PDF, and has been widely used for ten years in China. The 3rd generation of SEP boosts its document operation interface standard replacing document storage format standard, releases the UMOL standard, and is endeavored to settle down the problem of using uniformed standard for the accessing and processing of written material data and information in the software industry.
The digital library based on the SEP technique highly shared interaction, has the following technique characteristics:
It realizes the “User Generate Content”(UGC) to the upper most. The accumulation of knowledge is not the process of “few to many” , yet is a means implementing “many to many” to realize the expansion of the high efficiency of resources and the popularization of the knowledge. P2P technique is used for the point to point sharing of different kinds of text files, audio/videos, pictures, etc in the Internet. Applying the technique into the digital library system and integrated it with the digital library platform servers, it can be very convenient to construct the two kinds of file exchanges of “having server” and “not having server”, furthermore, these two kinds can be united to help the readers changed from the passive position to the initiative position, the uploading resource formats and categories is not restricted, the readers can process the searching, reading, uploading, exchanging file operations all within the platform, and realize the purpose of personal knowledge accumulation and growing up. By the above mentioned, the mile stone alike upgrading from the previously “storage, service” single direction information flowing to the bilateral information communication and sharing currently.
Instant Messaging (IM) is applied into the digital library system as the assisted method of consulting, the readers can acquire the information and knowledge more effectively and timely. Virtual Reference System (VRS) is the platform specifically for the library virtual consulting, the readers can get the answers from the book information experts by the means of EMAIL, online questions, viewing F&Q, thus achieve the knowledge accumulation.
The above mentioned techniques encourage on creating an enhanced environment for studying techniques by the means of information exchanging. The environment can stimulate the learners, and help them belonging to a specific knowledge group, meantime, the establishment of the F&Q database can setup the system to realize the huge amounts of personalization of studying experience in accordance with its acquirement and understanding of the learners’ behavior experience, thus to improve the learners’ capabilities, skills and performance.
Equipped with triple safety infrastructure guarantee, sensitive information can be locked firmly in the server side. Sursen SEP DRM technique supports both online and offline DRM(Digital Rights Management), realizes the control of copy、print、extract and spread over those who have the right to read by triple security system for the first time, provides up to 14 kinds of authorities and their permutation and combination and keeps ahead in security and fine granularity aspects in the world.
With the use of grid technique, the client side storage space can be greatly reduced, meantime, it is more convenient for the data upgrading and management.
Meanwhile, the project pays more attention to the user experience, emphasizes the simplicity of the product, its one station searching functionality can cross databases, cross operating systems to extract the directory data, and search the library written material book lists in the system, thus helps the platform equipped with good flexibility and extensibility.
