PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE
Proposal name:
Interoperable Semantic Enterprise Environment
Subject:
Knowledge is what we know and Information is the communication of knowledge and companies in general have a lot of information, but it is quite complicated to internalize it so it becomes knowledge. How to deal with too much information is a major challenge for knowledge management.
Getting the right content to the employees at the right time has been the goal of many scientific projects during the last decade. With respect to enterprises, these technologies promised to enable the active distribution of information to the users, fastening their working process and ensuring a high level of quality and uniformity. These approaches were realized by integrating technologies such data mining and ambient intelligence, neglecting the fact that the employees themselves are the ultimate source of enterprise knowledge.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Proposal Outline:
The goal of the project will be to enable the integration of the complete community of employees in their work context into the design of enterprise-wide knowledge resources, enabling a collaborative, user-driven and enterprise-wide creation and curation of knowledge resources. The possibilities of user-driven approaches have been clearly demonstrated by many successful Web 2.0 projects such as Wikipedia or del.icio.us. We aim at using a similar approach within enterprises to enable users to collaboratively:
- Model their processes while they are employing them. Simple and yet very powerful tools such as step lists could play a big role here
- Define and evolve enterprise-wide vocabularies (taxonomies, glossaries, …)
- Define and evolve enterprise-wide knowledge models (ontologies, …)
- Create new content and integrate it in a company-wide content-life-cycle
- Improve the quality of existing content
