A consortium composed of four laboratories, one research center, and one CMOS foundry is developping Germanium photodetectors for photonic based applications. Different germanium technologies are available in the consortium and integration of these technologies with CMOS technology will the core of the project. Photodetection could be in the plane of the circuit with waveguiding functionality or normal to the ciruit. Wavelength of operation could be large from 600nm to 1.6µm. Frequency of operation was demonstrated up to 39GHz. The demonstrator will be an integrated circuit with Germanium photodetectors, integrated TIA and CMOS circuitry.
