PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE

Proposal name:
Standard Modules for Intelligent Servers using Open Source concept and facilitiesSMISOS
Subject:
This project provides through automated tools an advanced approach of Web Services technology offering potential technical and economic advantages through  the association  of  a new  standard (SPDF: Standard  Process Description Format) to existing ones like SOAPand XML. The objective is to handle automatically  the information flow according to a predefined business model. Information is exchanged between different  subsystems composing  predefined scenarii where participants may have different profiles: persons,  applications and may use different access interface to offered services including mobile. One of the basic targets is to provide knowledge sharing services over the internet and enable companies to easily integrate available information systems.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Proposal Outline:
II. Description of work

SMISOS will support process collaboration with embedded knowledge and exchange management: creating, sharing, harvesting, and re-activating knowledge. For this purpose, several main modules have to be developed, according to the different relevant technologies involved and overall functionality to be provided.
These generic modules are:

Distributed processing
The proposal is based on a distributed approach, where provided services will be scattered among several processing modules. For this purpose, Web Services will be applied. The Web Services model allows integration of heterogeneous information sources.

Multi-format and “intelligent” document processing
If a knowledge sharing infrastructure is going to be provided, there exists a need to process or handle documents, which will contain information in several formats, specifically multimedia content. For this purpose, actual standards must be improved, leading to SPDF (Standard Process Description Format), which will be developed as part of the SMISOS project.

Security and Mobility model
From the previous system description, it can be seen that information is going to be exchanged among different subsystems, so integrity, confidentiality and consistency of such information must be provided. On the other hand, system users must access managed information in the easiest and more comfortable ways.
For this reason, mobile interfaces are part of the system, allowing users to interact with offered services from  any mobile device.

Business logic and Cross-Sector Application
As early mentioned, information managed must follow a flow, which must be defined, configured and controlled. This is the objective of this Business Logic component, serving as a tool to define and manage information flow.
User testing
The developed infrastructure must be tested against some user, to validate obtained results.

PARTNER PROFILE SOUGHT

Required skills and Expertise:
Experts in:
WEB SERVICES
MOBILE INTERFACES
implement mobile capabilities, such as XML, XSL (XML Style Sheet Language), WML (Wireless Markup Language)
OPEN INFRASTRUCTURE
INTEROPERABILITY
KNOWLEDGE SHARING INFRASTRUCTURE
SEMANTIC WEB
Description of work to be carried out by the partner(s) sought:
1. A Financial institution to lead Business logic, Cross-Sector Application and use case testing.
Description of work
Collection of requirements from the business processes, tailoring of the existing enterprise network to the  needs of the end user and integration tools currently in use.
2. A Telecom service provider to lead Security and Mobility model.
Description of work
- Design of an overall security architecture to ensure business security for SMISOS server modules and communication on lower (OSI) level.
- Integrate mobile devices to the system. Mobile technology will enable user interaction with the system via  portable devices, allowing remote server management and configuration.
3. EDIAUDIT to lead Multi-format and “intelligent” document processing.
Description of work
- Design intelligent server tools supported by a Standard Process Description Format (SPDF).
- Develop next generation business models as dynamic networked organisations using methodology for  on-line Server tools engineering and operation.
4. A University to lead Distributed processing.
Description of work
- Develop and deploy of an open knowledge sharing infrastructure. This allows for the interoperability of dynamic networked partners participating through advance exchange of information.
- Definition and design of modules to integrate SPDF: Standard Process Description Format into the Web Services architecture.
Type of partner(s) sought:
1. A Financial institution to lead Business logic, Cross-Sector Application and use case testing.
2. A Telecom service provider to lead Security and Mobility model.
3. A University to lead Distributed processing.
The Proposer is looking for a Coordinator:
