PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE

Proposal name:
TMN method - Toy Musical Notes
Subject:

How new electronic music-learning technology can:
1. Enhance communication and creativity in the ageing and disabled population.
2. Engage and inspire competency amongst groups at risk of exclusion, notably marginalised ageing people.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Proposal Outline:

We propose a new, user-friendly solution for the disabled ageing population. TMN (Toys Musical Notes) is a proven music-reading method (enjoyable, simple, no required technical proficiency), that helps enhance cognitive expression and creativity. By encouraging participants’ active ICT involvement, we are likely to stimulate their cognitive, creative and motor abilities. This will enrich their emotional and cultural life and could improve their social involvement.

The easily acquired TMN method answers the needs of the disabled ageing population. They yearn to remain active and creative. They enjoy the nostalgia of listening to the music of their younger days and they are often afraid of becoming mentally degenerate. TMN can help the cognitive rehabilitation process or reveal new musical skills (e.g. singing, dancing, composition, etc.) that will inspire heightened mental activity and possibly ease physical limitations.

Expected results will show: 1. A significant reduction in the number of ageing and disabled people experiencing mental and creative degeneration and social exclusion. 2. An increase in the number of ageing and disabled people enjoying an active life of culture and creativity. 3. Enhanced motor involvement and social mobility through participation in creative peer groups with ICT home platform.

We need to develop: a) E-learning technology to implement the TMN method for the ageing population. b) Electronic evaluation tools c) A teacher-training program.
