PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE

Proposal name:
End-User agent-based MOnitoring and management for scalable future Networks (EUMON)
Subject:

Providing network-wide awareness of service levels; Optimizing both the flexibility and performance of future networks.

EUMON intends to monitor and manage future networks and perform with more than a few hundred data sources and user-experience data, dealing with networks, typically over 5,000 users in an enterprise network

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Proposal Outline:

The project will develop a technology allowing the future network to provide better and more cost effective service through passive self-awareness of the network’s performance, resulting in better architecture, impact analysis and faster time-to-repair. To complement infrastructure-based monitoring, the project will dynamically monitor the end-user experience in the edges, allowing self-organization and re-routing mechanisms based on service-level criteria of the actual network users.

EUMON will develop technology specifically designed to solve the last mile problem of future networks, combining depth of visibility provided by end-user agent-based solutions that monitor the user experience in multiple layers of the operating system with advanced correlation and baseline analytics.

Irregular activities on the network will be managed in real-time thus optimising the future network’s performance and upgrading its flexibility. The monitor will be able to analyse multi-protocol applications that are used in multiple business activities in different domains. In EUMON, such applications will be tested on two different networks that are dissimilar in their complexity, in their unique distribution and in the services that they provide.

EUMON intends to:
1. Generate architecture blueprints for the future network end-point from a monitoring perspective.
2. Generate architecture blueprints for the future network end-point from a management perspective.
3. Define and implement a collection and highly scalable analysis framework for user experience data.
4. Perform a proof of concept of the end-point architecture and analysis framework in a large network setting.
