PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE
Proposal name:
Subject:
Patents are an important source of technological intelligence that companies can use to gain strategic advantage. Computation patent mapping is a methodology for the development and application of a technology knowledge base for technological, strategic and competitive intelligence. Patent maps are categorized representations of patent information that has been mined and aggregated or clustered to highlight specific features.
In this regard, the proposed project is aimed at providing a generic framework for Generating Patent Maps for ICT Sectors and its sub-sectors such as mobile technologies, multi-media technologies, software technlogies and embedded systems and extensible to other sectors as well.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Proposal Outline:
The Project is aimed at
-
Creation of a Generic data model & algorithm using heirarchical & fuzzy modeling for generating & analyzing Patent Maps.
-
Creation of specific patent maps for subectors of ICT Sectors for the patents issued during the past few years and categorize these into searchable Proudct / Technology clusters.
-
Providing an intelligent searching tool for performing structured patent map searches.
In principle, the purpose of the patent map generation task is to generate a patent map driven by a specific theme, such as ICT Symbian Mobile Phone Technologies. This can be seen as a text mining task / semantic analysis task.
We propose a dynamic, web-enabled Patent Mapping tool enabling Indian and EU industries to map patents in real time as per their own specific requirements. Each Patent may lie in more than one technology sub-cluster, therefore, fuzzy clustering logic would be utlized to calculate the relevance of each patent document in each technology sub-cluster and for each technology sub-cluster’s relevance in each technology cluster. The prototype system will be developed with the assistance of an expert team and a Committee of ICT experts providing intellectual inputs.
An initial set of Patents and technologies (both Indian and EU) in the ICT Sector would be linked to a categorisation schema (based on the International Patent Classification System) to formulate a PATENT DATA MODEL which would be expanded to cover more and more technologies clusters and sub-clusters. A Multi Layer Scalable Architecture shall be created, integrated and tested to provide a scalable overall structure of data, communication, processing and presentation that exists for end user computing. After development of individual modules, integration, testing and field operational trials for all modules would be carried out.
The Developed System would be provided to the stakeholders free of charge for a period of one year and subsequent operational sustainability would be achieved through subscription fees, A model for which would also be worked out.
