The aim of this project is the realization of an emulator able to provide the doctors a predictive and descriptive system of the patient's cardiovascular system.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Proposal Outline:
The aim of this project is the realization of an emulator able to provide the doctors a predictive and descriptive system of the patient's cardiovascular system.
The integration of data given by Non-invasive techniques of medical imaging, data from Clinical Tests and Medical Records will be the basis for its development.
A Medical analysis will be performed in order to determine a set of Medical data that will be stored in a standard way by a Data Fusion platform.
The same Data Fusion platform will convert the stored data in a set of Physical Data.
A Physical-Mathematical Model of the Cardiovascular system will be designed and validated with experimental techniques.
Based on the Physical-Mathematical Model, a Mathematical Model and a Numerical Model will be built.
This Numerical Model will represent the Cardiovascular Emulator.
The Numerical Model will then be adapted to the specific patient using optimization techniques in order to minimize an identified “measure” of the distance between the results obtained with the numerical model and the Medical data obtained on the “Real patient”.
This numerical “virtual patient” will be used to analyze the response to physical and pharmacological stimulation:

Response to physical stress

Response to drugs
-
Response to “simulated” surgical operations (stent, bypass, biological or mechanical valve )
A medical user-friendly Visualization tool will be built to ensure proper inputing of data, stimulation of the emulator and visualization of the medical Data in output.
Activities to be performed
Identification of Medical parameters by means data extraction on statistical and historical records in order to classify different scenarios. Data will be stored in a standard open format.
3D reconstruction from non invasive imaging techniques.
Data fusion platform implementation to store data and convert data from the physical domain to the numerical one.
Definition of a Physical-Mathematical model and implementation using HPC techniques
Development of Visualization Tool in collaboration with clinicians and researchers to manipulate the model and its results
