PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE

Proposal name:
AGORA - Virtual Place of Assembly
Subject:

Actions geared towards community building, intended to stimulate cross-disciplinary approaches and a more effective user/supplier dialogue, and other measures, including field validation and standards, aimed at a faster uptake of research results. Usability and technology assessment studies, economic analyses and roadmaps to chart the democratization of personal and community based multimedia production and management tools.

Semantic foundations: probabilistic, temporal and modal modelling and approximate reasoning through objective-driven research moving beyond current formalisms. Theoretical results will be matched by robust and scalable reference implementations.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Proposal Outline:
The project offers a collaborative portal where professionals find all information’s in a mutual or complementary relationship to their activities like Interesting Projects, Informative courses, Collaboration partners, venture capitalists, Publications, Tenders, events and Conferences.

Instead of just another collaborative suite, the targeted portal addresses an innovative semantics approach on finding the information. Beyond searching the information database with simple keyword match approach, the system is capable of providing multi-level and multi-format (text, images, audio/video) compartmentalized information relevant to the subjects’ self-description on their skills, competencies and specific interests. The portals information source can be either pre-configured or user defined custom source.

The portal, by relying on this semantic approach fills the lack of intelligent knowledge guiding on finding the resources over a classical solution. The software also provides a multi-lingual information finder breaking all cross-lingual communication barriers. That means the underlying system has to be built on open standards structured content management system with all relevant operations for authentication, authorization, searching, qualifying, language parsing, data mining and information identifying. In addition, a well-defined ontology for identification of resources (project proposals, publications, courses, conferences etc) and a semantic content identifier for decision guiding.

Technologies adopted in this project context would be:

GRID computing capabilities will be exploited to distribute roles, computational responsibilities, ubiquitous access to information, data crunching and information extraction

Web Semantic based on a pre-built ontology’s, on per sector, basis to meaningfully and effectively access to information

Expected impact

These activities will make digital resources that embody creativity and semantics easier and more cost-effective to produce, organize, search, personalise, distribute and (re)use, across the value chain.

Publishers in creative industries, enterprises and professional sectors will increase their productivity with innovative content of greater complexity and ease of repurposing. Organisations will be able to automate the collection and distribution of digital content and machine-tractable knowledge and share them with partner organizations in trusted collaborative environments.

Scientists will operate more efficiently by automating the link between data analysis, theory and experimental validation.

News
New ICT calls open now

The three joint actions managed by the European Commission's DG INFSO have now launched their first calls for proposals.

Ideal-ist opens partner search for ARTEMIS call

With the start of the first ARTEMIS call on 8 May 2008, Ideal-ist opens its online partner search tool for project ideas relating to this call. A similar service for ENIAC is under negotiation.

Submissions to FP7 ICT Call-3

A total of 829 project proposals were submitted successfully before the deadline on 8 April
