Multimedia Tutoring System
Subject:
We (scholars and researchers from Institute of Computer Science and faculty of Education and Psychology - University of Bialystok) are interested in designing and making intelligent multimedia tutoring system (intelligent environment for technology-enhanced learning) that will be able to recognize for each learner his/her style of learning and individual needs, select and propose strategy of teaching accordingly to recognized style and needs, activate learner and inspire him/her to creative thinking and problem solving (also in collaborative way of learning). It will be possible to implement this educational environment in schools and enterprises of different types. The main idea of education in this environment is all the time the same, aims and content depend on particular course and target. After preparing planned system (and implementation it in number of institutions) we want to do research on effectiveness of education with using this system (from pedagogical point of view and institutional point of view).

Necessary activities:
- a versatile learning environment that could be used for creating content of needed courses (with special editor) and realizing the teaching/learning process within particular course,
- the results of research on effectiveness of the whole system.
Necessary activities:
- creating a database of learning styles, a database of teaching strategies (based on pedagogical and psychological knowledge) and relations between these databases,
- creating a structure of "domain module" and connections between this module and strategies of teaching,
- creating tools of recognizing learner's style of learning, controlling his/her outcomes and making decision when teaching strategy should be changed,
- creation of the whole system (from technological and programming point of view - including creating editor of courses and all mechanisms of management),
- testing of the system in number of different institutions,
- research on effectiveness of using system (especially the mechanism of selection of teaching strategy accordingly to profile of learner; first approach: effectiveness is defined in terms specific for institution, second approach: effectiveness is defined in terms of individual needs and development of learner).
