Subject:
Currently the use of data packet transmission is used for many different networks with diverse nature and for several purposes and applications. Each network where data packets are used, has its own architecture, components, properties, parameters and drawbacks that result in a specific behaviour and efficiency of the system when data packets are transmitted. Thise project addresses with the problem of data packets transmission optimisation in wireless networks. Thise project will deal with this problem in order to increase the network efficiency and hence QoS. The aim of this project is to develop a set of variable packet size technology based algorithms to improve the performance of mobile telephony networks. This approach includes research activities regarding 2.5 G, 3G and beyond 3G networks in order to provide users an improved QoS and the possibility of apply to new applications. Depending on the network conditions, the efficiency of the network relies heavily on the size of the data packets transmitted, and the determination of the appropriate size is not a trivial issue and, especially in the case of the mobile network, it depends on many factors. This new set of algorithms will use the appropriate intelligent fragmentation mechanisms in order to determine the most appropriate packet size depending on the different parameters that establish the network conditions. Such solution should produce a flexible algorithm set that is compatible with legacy systems as well as for next generation systems. The optimization of data packets will improve the network efficiency with measurable profits that will serve on one hand to improve current QoS and on the other hand to provide new services that were not applied because network performance.
