PROPOSAL AT A GLANCE

Proposal name:
virtual physiological human
Subject:

The Russian technology VIRTUAL SCANNING is a cognitive technology used widely in the Russian Health Services since 2001. The developer Dr I.G.Grakov has mathematically modelled the cognitive data derived from the computer-based test procedure and hence is able to provide a level of data which is unprecedented in modern medicine - the most destabilised physiological system, the most destabilised organ, the precise medical conditions affecting each and every organ and the morphology of each organ (e.g. of new cell formation, inc/dec blood flow, cell differentiation). It is also able to provide the patient's psychological profile.

The technology uses an understanding of the precise structure and function of the body's physiological systems. It uses mathematical modelling to create or model the virtual physiological human.  This approach differs from the conventional organ-based approach by considering the function of the autonomic nervous system and how this regulates the function of the physiological systems. In effect looking at the body from its origins as a data receiving and processing entity rather than as a single organ.

In addition by understanding how the input of data (and hence of stress) affects the autonomic nervous system it is possible to use the data to obtained to provide a unique light-based therapy to treat the psychosomatic components of illness (i.e psychosomatic: affecting the stability of the body's physiological systems)

Montague Healthcare is CE-marked and hence is able to provide accredited and trained practitioners, or to train practitioners to use this technology. We provide a level of expertise which can be used in projects involving this technology.

It is our belief that Dr Grakov's work is an estimated 10 years ahead of any comparable research.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Proposal Outline:

Montague Healthcare is seeking to be a part of a research consortium which can research the origins of this technology and which can conduct studies to verify the claims for this unique technology OR to use this technology to verify the claims of other projects in this subject area.

We require partners who can provide some of the following:

(1) can manage the project

(2) can provide psychlogical/psychometric testing to verify the psychological profiling

(3) can provide a sophisticated range of medical testing facilities to verify the medical claims for this technology.

The Russian claims for this technology are that it provides a more sophisticated assessment of illness than can be provided by the simplistic biochemical tests based upon biomarkers and that as a diagnostic technology it is up to 25% more precise than a range of biomedical test technologies. As a therapy it is claimed to be 93% effective. The technology appears to focus upon detecting the cause and processes of illness.

A book to be published in July/August 2007 of c465 A4 pages will illustrate why these claims appear to be correct.

The purpose of this project is to verify the claims for this technology and in so doing demonstrate the significance of the body's physiological systems - for their ability to be used to diagnose and treat health; to illustrate that a new generation of technologies based upon virtual physiological human is within the reach of modern medicine; to bring this technology into use and hence prove its benefit to every person in the world.

Keywords:
physiological systems; mathematical modelling; virtual physiological human; diagnosis; treatment; behaviour; cognition; visual perception.

PARTNER PROFILE SOUGHT

Required skills and Expertise:

The main type of partners would be able to provide

(1) psychological and psychometric assessments and

(2) sophisticated medical test facilities e.g. a hospital, medical institute, etc; which has access to patients and to a sophisticated range of medical test facilities.

(3) A research institute which has the expertise to assess and verify the theoretical claims for the technology. This would require expertise in 'cognition', psychology, (bio)mathematical modeling, bio-physics.

Description of work to be carried out by the partner(s) sought:

The range of facilities required from the partner would be dependent upon the medical or psychological condition of the patients studied.  Partners would be required to contribute their expertise to precisely define and implement the work programmes required to verify the claims for the technology.

Partner 1 would be required to conduct psychological assessments and to make a comparison of results obtained by the different technologies.

Partner 2 would be required to conduct medical testing and to make a comparison of results obtained by the different medical technologies. This could involve clinical trials.

Partner 1 & 2 could be the same organisation.

Partner 3 would be required to conduct independent assessments of the underlying theoretical nature of the technology.

Partner 4  Dr Grakov will give the project an 'intellectual core'. This will be useful in the event that research uncovers inconsistent or anomalous results.

Type of partner(s) sought:

Type of partner sought:

(1) Hospital;

(2) Hospital or Medical Research Institute

(3) Research Institute or University
